As the guy below said, what a beautiful time capsule is this site! I still love to play D&D, and the name calculator is super handy. Anyone who also likes to play it can find me at Fightcade, in the SOM room.

Haha.. oh the memories of going straight to arcades after school to play some "dungeon" with my friends. by farr the greaatest game ever. i was always so amazed by older kids who were so good that they can solo knight/magic the game on one credit. soo glad I can relive those memories thanks to internet/emulators. thanks p.s) LOL guestbooks...

Thanks (sort of) for the nagging, got me motivated to patch some things up. Turns out I just had to make the applet clas actually extend java.applet.Applet. Looks like it works now, and as always the source code is available, including the customization options. While I was at it, I finally added solutions to the two big 'level 5' brainteasers.

Nice web page, lots of interesting info and links that I'm finding to be very helpful. Got this for my emulator just this past week, and even after ten some-odd years I' m surprised to find the graphics are easy on the eyes. This is most evident by the cartoon-like art style that seems to age very well. Thanks.

Thanks for the notes on the brainteasers. There's definitely a big gap on the "psycho cop" problem. I mentioned the prisoners are in a line, but knowing the order in which they're asked is key to the solution.

As for the pills, it's true, the original version had something like 1 gram pills vs. 1.01 grams. I just switched it to 1 and 2 gram pills to make the example application easier to follow using whole numbers instead of decimals.

For the pirate voting problem, I'm not so sure that the additional parameter is necessary. I suppose it might help if I ever actually put up solutions to these problems, eh? :)

In anycase, thanks for the notes, I'll revise the problem descriptions and toss up a few quick solution notes, even if they're lacking the full-on example JavaScript applications and such.

I always love stumbing across new riddles - so of course I was happy to find yours. Now, I know you put them around 3 years ago, but I have a couple things to point out that would "tighten them up". You might get points for busting a riddle in an interview, but still...

1. Mis-weighed pills: At 2 grams vs. 1gram per pill, the odd box ways 44 pounds vs. 22 pounds for the standard ones. Don't need a scale for that! To guide people towards the correct and interesting solution, I suggest making the relative weight difference much smaller.

2. Pirates & Buried Treasure: Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you need one more parameter to be able to find the best solution. Besides (1) Pirates want to maximize their gold, and (2) Pirates want stay alive, how about (3) Pirates are incapable of resisting the temptation of gold. This seems necessary since otherwise Pirate 5 could tell Pirate 4, "Dude, we're screwed unless you agree to give me a bit more than 0 gold". They could happily fulfill (1) and (2) and leave the riddle wide open.

3. Sadistic Psycho Cop: the riddle neglects to mention in what order the prisoners are questioned. There may be only one order that makes any sense (besides "at random"), but it still hurts the riddle.

Okay, thanks for the diversion :) Jay

I love D&D SOM too. I used to always play at the mall every weekend. And it too was taken out by the arcade. So, I'm really thankful that I got your site. I've downloaded the ROM (ddsomu) and the Emulator (MAME). I already extracted the emulator and saved the zipped ddsomu at the ROM folder, but I just can seem to let it work. How did you make yours work? What did you do? Can you please give me some hints! I'm really excited in playing this game on my PC. Thanks, you can reach me at my email address benkris01@hotmail.com

So weird. Who is this Dr. Sbaitso? I think I know who it is, but I don't know how to contact them, though they claimed otherwise. Our mystery guest remains a mystery it appears.

Jon, it's been awhile and your pathetic failed attempts to contact me are inexcusable. I will have to send Yoshi across the great swamp and through the forbidden forest to your location to extract you. Or... do you have a myspace account - cause that would be easier.

Um, wow. I can't believe I found this. And to think I found it while trying to find a place to download nibbles with frags. Is this even the right Jon? Because, y'know, I can only think of one Jon... *still doesn't have nibbles with frags*

Your site has become infected with immoral antics brought on by the devil. This is surely not the work of Mr. Chen, as he is too preoccupied with the physics of particles, deep puddle dynamics and cheesy poofs. Or is he?......

Fascinating. Someone who knows my deep dark secrets from the days of Junior High... but which one is it? It's like a creepy muder mystery, or perhaps cheesy teen horror flick. The list of suspects is few, and I think only one who'd know all those incidents, but maybe people just talk...

Either way, I'll have to be sure and have the person murdered before my skeletons in the closet are brought to light.

I was astonished to read that Dr. Sbaitso has found you. I was hoping that I would reach you first. Whatever he says do not give him the secret formula. You remember the one that was used to clean your stairway walls aflame, and to render young j.c. sleepless so you could have your way with her in the night. It was disguised as aquanet. I will contact you again shortly.

You know how to reach me if you want to.

aha finally (after so long) i've found a site dedicated to this great game! Nice work on the site! Well, i still drop by the arcade (Parklane shopping center, or sometimes, at Lot 1, Chua Chu Kang) during weekends/Sundays to play.. but mostly i play solo these days - either as Thief (using char. name "I-NO") or mage (char. name "WUMING").. although i started as an Elf player long long time ago back in 1996. Time flies heh. Nowadays, i can also be found rambling sometimes at http://keeptouchforums.com -sigh- i think we will never see the likes of such great games again. For Capcom, its "bad for business" if we veteran players keep whacking at the game -evil grin-.
